Different Types of Orchids

There are several different kinds of orchids existing in the nature. Moreover, the different kinds of orchids can be broken into several categories of species for easy identification. The main reason for such break down of species enables to find out the appropriate care for a specific orchid species. Some of the different types of orchids include Cimbidyium Orchids, Odontoglossom Orchids, Cattelya Orchids, Oncidium Orchids, Dendrobium Orchids, Phalaenopsis Orchids, Miltonia Orchids, Vanda Orchids and finally, Phragmipedium Orchids. Of the several types of orchids, nurserymen will come up with most types in Dendrobium orchid, as it possess above 1000 kinds.

  1. Anota Violacea: These orchids are sometimes called Rhynchostylis Violacea orchids. These orchids are originally derived from the islands of Philippine and it has the full mist of several miniature lilac and fair flowers. These type of orchids favor intermediate to temperate and it mostly blooms in winter and in spring. 
  2. Brassavola Orchid: These orchids are originally derived from South and Central America. The flowers of Brassavola are aromatic at night and they blossom off and on, throughout the year. This orchid favors intermediate to warm-up temperature.
  3. Cattelya Orchid: These types of orchids are can be further separated into two categories such as labiate and bifoliate. Labiate produces one-leaved with 1-3 large flowers, whereas bifoliate produces two-leaved with huge numbers of narrow, small and colored flowers. Blossoming period depends upon the hybrid or species.
  4. Dendrobium Orchid: Some Dendrobium orchid has pseudobulbs while others don’t. Several are deciduous, while other types of orchids are evergreen. Some are from warm sea-level, while others from cold mountain areas.
  5. Epidendrum Orchid: An Epidendrum orchid varies greatly. Some will have pseudobulbs, while other have canelike or reed stems. Several are incredibly small, whereas others are large. These types of orchids flourished with flowers also vary in size, some may have quarter inch whereas others may have six inches.
  6. Vanda Orchid: Vanda orchids are mainly separated into two categories based on their leaves shape. They require support, as it often grows very tall.

Overview:

There are many different types of orchids, which live and thrive in different kinds of climates. For example, Cattelya Orchids flourish in humid conditions, whereas Odontoglossom Orchids thrive in less warmth conditions. Similarly, Phalaenopsis Orchids grows well indoors, whereas Dendrobium Orchids may flourish almost everywhere. If a nurseryman us not sure about the prosperous nature of orchids, then he may take a help of local florist. Most of the florists are well versed regarding how to perfectly cultivate and arouse orchids. There are many florists who clear all the doubts about the different types of orchids, thereby making the nurseryman’s mind at ease.
